Course Outlines

Course 1: The Basics of Feedback

The art and science of feedback is a combination of timing, preparation, language, and an environment of respect and trust.  This course teaches the fundamental practices that can help you achieve these things, whether you’re giving feedback to a peer, a direct report, or a superior.  This course is the foundation on which all subsequent courses build.

Lesson 1: The Importance of Feedback
Lesson 2: The Principles of Feedback
Lesson 3: Choosing the Optimal Setting
Lesson 4: Giving Redirecting Feedback
Lesson 5: Giving Positive Feedback
Lesson 6: Emotions and Feedback

Course 2: How to Receive Feedback

Feedback is a two-way street.  In order for feedback to bear fruit, it must be received and acted on.  That’s much easier said than done.  For most of us, feedback can trigger an automatic reaction that inhibits our ability to hear it.  In this course, we’ll teach you how to manage those impulses and cultivate a feedback-welcoming mindset and persona.

Lesson 1: Cultivating a Feedback Welcoming Mindset
Lesson 2: Soliciting Feedback
Lesson 3: Processing Feedback
Lesson 4: Responding to Feedback
Lesson 5: Taking Action on Feedback

Course 3: Formal Feedback Quick Study

Sometimes feedback is ad hoc, focusing on a momentary event.  Other times, it’s a more planned activity that looks at broader trends over a longer period of time.  These formal feedback discussions have unique qualities that people leaders need to be prepared for.  In this course, people leaders will learn to navigate effective formal feedback conversations.

Lesson 1: The Importance of Getting it Right
Lesson 2: Preparing for the Conversation
Lesson 3: Navigating the Conversation

Course 4: Formal Feedback Quick Study

Sometimes, an employee’s negative behavior requires a more serious discussion.  These conversations can be delicate and should be handled with the most care.  In this course, we’ll teach people leaders how to lead these discussions, how to decide when they need to be escalated, and how to ensure the proper follow through.

Lesson 1: The Purpose of the Conversation
Lesson 2: Preparing for the Conversation
Lesson 3: Navigating the Conversation
