Charlie Tetrick
Owner/President
Charlie Tetrick, CEO of Walz Tetrick Advertising, has been a thriving member of the local advertising community for more than 50 years. The agency was founded in 1967, then called Travis Walz. In 1993, Travis Walz and Tetrick Marketing Design merged, forming Walz Tetrick Advertising. Charlie took full ownership of Walz Tetrick in 1994 at the age of 27, retaining the name “Walz” out of respect for his friend and mentor, who died less than a year after their companies merged. For 30 years, the agency has consistently ranked in the Top 10 in revenue in the Book of Lists. It has successfully navigated multiple mergers and acquisitions. Charlie Tetrick was named a Champion of Business in 2021, and a Top 10 Small Business Award Recipient for 2022 and 2023. Charlie was named Top 50 Kansans You Should Know in 2023, as well as local CEO of the Year. In 2023, Walz Tetrick gained large notoriety by doubling in size with employee count and tripling gross revenue YOY. The addition of a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practice as well as a multicultural agency within the house of brands has brought significant attention to the agency. Most recently, Walz Tetrick gained visibility in Ad Age for a new national account acquisition.
Charlie Tetrick is extremely active in the community, lending marketing expertise and business acumen to many nonprofit boards and state-level task forces. Most recently, Charlie was honored by the 303rd Fighter Wing of the U.S. Air Force as their Civilian Honorary Squadron Commander. His role there is to support and connect the military with Kansas City businesses.
• U.S. Air Force Civilian Honorary Squadron Commander (303rd fighter wing)
• Kansas Works State Board (gubernatorial appointee)
• State of Kansas Governor’s Economic Council (two administrations)
• Young Entrepreneurs Organization (past chairman)
• Greater KC Chamber of Commerce Centurions Program (past president)
• American Royal (chairman emeritus)
• Kansas City Royals Diamond of Dreams
• Boy Scouts of America (council president emeritus)
• KC Ad Club/AAF-KC (former board member)
• American Association of Advertising Agencies (board of governors)
Charlie’s character and leadership qualities has been a rising tide for the Kansas City business community by attracting clients and job opportunities for decades. Walz Tetrick represents clients internationally; however, all employees and jobs reside in Kansas City which fuels our economy while supporting these clients with creative, media, strategy, video, photography and client service roles.
Katy Jennings
Director of Business Strategy
Katy’s approach to business development is a collaboration of strategy, creativity, measurability and frivolity. A results-oriented evolutionary, Katy is taking Walz Tetrick’s business to the next level by activating strategic capabilities that evolve our clients’ brands.
Prior to joining the torch-wielding mob at Walz Tetrick, Katy spent over two decades working her way through the ranks in local and national broadcast sales and business development. Her work has received recognition and awards from Radio Ink Magazine, Kansas City Media Mix and Ingram’s Forty Under 40. She developed key strategies that helped turn small businesses into market leaders. Her leadership contributions have driven bottom-line growth through numerous acquisitions and mergers.
Outside of the office, Katy has served on the board of directors for medical and educational foundations, as well as the Chairman’s Circle for the American Cancer Society. It’s alleged she performs cartwheels in her spare time.
