Overview

Company Summary

We’re Campbell Ewald (CE among friends), a full-service creative agency with a Radically Human approach to solving brand problems. Every day, we collaborate to blend innovation and instinct; turning mountains of data into people-first insights, AI inspiration into expertly crafted creative, and brands into places to belong. Founded in 1911, we’re part of the global Interpublic Group (IPG) agency network. We proudly hail from downtown Detroit but also have offices in Los Angeles, and New York City as well as a remote workforce in Denver, Atlanta, Richmond, Miami, and Montana allowing us to serve clients coast to coast. We’re known for taking radical approaches to get to human truths. Like buying a literal GM dealership to better understand the customer experience; wearing our client’s hearing aids for a week to put ourselves in their customers’ shoes; harnessing human insights to transform a 110-year-old brand into a modern-day go-to; and hacking old media to bring cryptocurrency to IRL communities. In short, we solve brand problems by helping brands solve people problems. It’s a radical approach, and it can make a radical difference for your bottom line.

Kari Shimmel
CEO
With backgrounds in creative, planning and digital, Kari brings over 18 years of experience and leadership to the agency. Prior to her role as CEO, she launched our CX consultancy, CE/CX. She continues to drive innovation within the agency, helping our clients find their competitive advantage in the experience age. She has a passion for cultivating talent and championing diversity, equity and belonging within the industry. Kari has partnered with clients in a wide variety of industries including healthcare (Henry Ford Health System, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Uhealth, UnitedHealth Group and Centene), financial services (Mutual of Omaha, USAA, LendingTree, Flagstar Bank, Alliance for Lifetime Income) and retail (ASICS, Dole, Munchkin).

Silmo Bonomi
Chief Creative Officer
Silmo’s mission is to shatter stereotyped advertising by creating inclusive, diverse, unbiased, culturally relevant work that truly represents modern culture and the change-makers shaping it. Silmo comes to us from VMLY&R New York and Y&R São Paulo, where his work earned international recognition at Cannes, D&AD, the One Show, the Clios and the Effies. Silmo has worked on brands including New Balance, United Nations, AMC Networks, Netflix and Amazon, among others. Silmo brings an expertise in digital that will help drive audience engagement and revenue growth for your business.

Jamil Buie
Group Director, Growth & Innovation
Jamil brings over 20 years of experience, joining the industry as an “account guy” while cross-training as a writer, strategist and cultural curator. He’s participated in the stewardship of brands like DeBeers, Ford, McDonald’s, Nationwide Insurance, UPMC and Chrysler Jeep Dodge. He’s also worked across a range of speciality markets and platforms, including multicultural, digital advertising, event and entertainment marketing, TV and film product placement, and business development. He’s worked on several B2B accounts in heavily regulated industries, so balancing the need to build a solid brand foundation within regulatory guidelines is not foreign to Jamil.

Colin Padden
Chief Client Officer
As Chief Client Officer, Colin is responsible for, among other things, our clients’ satisfaction and the performance of our account services department. With over 20 years leading clients and teams across multiple disciplines and categories, including deep experience in automotive, Colin and his teams have successfully helped brands grow and perform profitably. “Work with purpose" isn’t just a sign that hangs in the entryway of our agency. It is a mantra Colin and his teams live every day for every client.

Barb Rozman-Stokes
Chief Talent Officer
Officially, Barb is leading the talent management team and overseeing employee communications. Unofficially, she calls herself a steward of culture and an anti-racist advocate-in-training. She makes it her mission to build a constantly growing culture of belonging and equity. In the past six years, she has helped the agency evolve its DE&I goals and established a real commitment for change. Under Barb’s stewardship, the agency has been recognized and awarded for their DEIB programming. Representation at all levels for people of color and women has increased year-over-year at CE with over 25% of the agency now comprised of people of color. In fact, in 2021, Campbell Ewald was named one of Advertising Age's top 15 Best Places to Work. She is also proud of her work with the American Association of Advertising Agencies (the 4A’s) as the chairperson of the Chief Talent Officers Council and her leadership of the Talent Equity Alliance (TEA). The Talent Equity Alliance is a collective of agency leaders working to create new talent policies and practices that will increase equity & belonging for all people in our industry. As a leader, Barb uses her power for good and pushes for what’s right — not what’s expected or easy. She believes the secret to success is to lead with empathy, learn from your mistakes and help others thrive.
