David Angelo
Founder/Creative Chairman
A 25-year advertising veteran and AAF Advertising Hall of Achievement Inductee, David Angelo founded the agency in 1999 with the mission to help brand partners overcome any goliaths that stand in their way. David’s unique mind-set has attracted many brave clients to D&G, for whom the agency has achieved measurable results. In 2011, Ad Age named David&Goliath Small Agency of the Year — a testament to the agency’s entrepreneurial style of working.
Throughout his career, he’s worked on a wide range of iconic brands, including Bacardi, Coca-Cola, Kia, Lexus, Michelin, Reebok, NFL, Little Caesars, and both the New York and California State Lottery. David’s work has garnered more than 400 of the industry’s most prestigious awards, including Cannes Lions, One Show Pencils, CLIOs, and Effie Awards, in addition to LA’s Entrepreneur of the Year. David currently serves as a guest speaker for the AAAA, thinkLA, and The One Club.
Ben Purcell
Chief Creative Officer
In 1999, Ben Purcell joined David Angelo and three others and opened the doors to David&Goliath in Los Angeles. In addition to growing the agency from scratch, Ben helped secure the Kia Motors account and guided the brand from the number 12 import in US Sales to number 5. From ACD to CCO, Ben has worked on 7 Super Bowl campaigns including the Cannes Lion winning “Eco-Warrior Melissa McCarthy” campaign that’s among the highest rated of all time. And for this year’s Super Bowl, he led the creative for the “Live Fully Charged” Robo Dog campaign that included a partnership with the Petfinder Foundation, that helped shelter dogs find forever homes.
In addition to Kia, Ben has managed and created award-winning work for accounts including Universal Studios, VIZIO, HBO, Jack in the Box, Bacardi, Mattel Hot Wheels, and a portfolio of Frito Lay products including Stacy’s. His awards include Cannes, The One Show, D&AD, Clio and Effie, as well as his prized first place trophy from the David&Goliath mixed doubles table tennis tournament.
Before David&Goliath, Ben freelanced for 4 years at Band of Gypsies, BBDO, Fallon, TBWA Chiat/Day and Wieden + Kennedy.
Prior to heading West, Ben grew up in the South. He graduated from the University of Kentucky at the age of 20 and then the Portfolio Center in Atlanta. Purcell has been an adjunct professor at the USC Annenberg School. As far as his personal life, Ben is married and has three girls. To keep his sanity, he rides his bikes and works a lot.
