Posterscope USA and Green Mountain Energy Convert Billboard Materials into Tote Bags as Part of Sustainable Campaign

New York, NY – December 1, 2015 – Posterscope, an out-of-home market leader, and Green Mountain Energy, a renewable energy retailer dedicated to changing the way power is made, are working together to ensure materials used in a Green Mountain billboard advertising campaign don’t go to waste. In keeping with the theme of the campaign to promote renewable energy initiatives, Posterscope’s production team is converting the vinyl material used on 10 Texas billboards into tote bags and tablet sleeves to be distributed as “thank you” gifts to Green Mountain customers and employees.

“Green Mountain is a great example of a company doing more than just talking about sustainable living. They are doing something about it,” said Jeff Tan, vice president of strategy, Posterscope. “Posterscope recently conducted a survey focused on consumer preferences on outdoor advertising that revealed 72 percent of consumers want to recycle as much as possible and believe the companies they buy from should have a clean environmental record. Through the sustainable billboard campaign, we were able to help satisfy this consumer need as Green Mountain maintains its commitment to the environment.”

The outdoor campaign, which ran in Dallas and Houston from June to October 2015, highlighted Green Mountain Energy’s sustainability efforts and raised awareness about its mission to use the power of consumer choice to change the way power is made. During the planning process, Green Mountain asked Posterscope to design a campaign that could be executed in a sustainable manner and with as little environmental impact as possible. The idea to repurpose the billboards helped maximize Green Mountain’s sustainability efforts.

Once recycled, the billboard materials will yield 1,000 tote bags and 20 tablet sleeves.”Our commitment to sustainability is core to our mission,” said Mark McShane, vice president of Texas retail, Green Mountain Energy Company. “It’s important our marketing efforts are effective in reaching our key audiences, but it’s equally important those efforts align with our commitment to sustainability. Posterscope creatively tackled the unique challenge we presented.”
