jim-pharoJames W. Pharo has worked in the marketing communications industry for 25 years, providing legal and business affairs advice to a variety of agencies, clients and service providers. A magna cum laude graduate of Cardozo School of Law, Jim joined Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton upon graduation. He later joined American Express, where he was appointed that company’s first global advertising counsel, responsible for all aspects of the company’s marketing and advertising legal work. Jim then briefly served as counsel to Hall Dickler, before joining Y&R full time, with responsibilities for global IP issues as well as major domestic, international and global agency-client agreements.

Jim left Y&R proper in 2000 to serve as COO and general counsel of the Lord Group, a part of the Y&R/Dentsu Network. Following the closure of the Y&R/Dentsu offices in the U.S., Jim returned to private practice, counseling clients in the mar-comm industry.  He includes among his clients mcgarrybowen, a unit of the Dentsu Aegis Network, where he also serves as general counsel.
